Nautilus shell is composed of layers of different colors. On the lower half of the cab, the artisan has created decorative ridges within the shell layers which are polished down to the inner iridescent white and pearlescent blue-gray colors. At the top of the cab just the smooth pearlescent blue-gray layer is exposed. To form the cab, the nautilus shell is cut in half down the long axis, filled with resin and capped with mother of pearl, or other shell material, to form the flat back.
